Fox News reports that the United States (“US”) Senate approved a stopgap spending measure this evening (9/30/2023), averting a government shutdown with just three hours to spare. The final vote was 88 to 9.
The US House of Representatives passed the short-term spending bill earlier today. The bill, known as a continuing resolution (“CR”), passed 335 to 91, causing the lawmakers to break out into applause.
The CR authorizes funding only for another 45 days. The funding includes $16 billion in disaster relief but does not include assistance to Ukraine.

My brothers and sisters, as I mentioned in a FGGAM article earlier today regarding the potential shutdown, the grossly divided politics and ideology within the US government presents an enormous challenge for legislators to agree upon on a fiscal year 2024 federal budget – which must also meet with President Biden’s approval.
In the crosshairs are matters about our multiple trillions of national debt, our budgeting priorities, and whether abandoning assistance to Ukraine is really in the best interests of the US in the long run – and the list goes on.
Please continue to pray for godly wisdom for our leaders! The 45-day CR will breeze by very quickly and we could be right back in this situation again, just in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
