The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that the United States (“US”) federal government is rushing headlong into a shutdown posing great uncertainty for federal workers across the country. The Senate is holding a rare Saturday session in an effort to advance its own bipartisan package which would fund the government through November 17, 2023, but considering the current state of disarray in the House of Representatives, this approach is also likely to fail.
With no deal in place by midnight tonight, federal workers will face furloughs, with more than two million active-duty and reserve military members having to work without pay.
According to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), “Congress has only one option to avoid a shutdown — bipartisanship.”

My brothers and sisters, the urgency of this moment is hard to overstate, considering the grossly divided nature of the US government at all levels. In the crosshairs are matters about our multiple trillions of national debt, our budgeting priorities, and whether abandoning assistance to Ukraine because of inept, if not highly corrupt, leadership under the Biden administration is really in the best interests of the US in the long run – and the list goes on.
Please continue to pray for the wisdom and favor of God – not only upon the decision makers, but upon those who would suffer hardship, even temporarily, in the face of a shutdown of the federal government.
