BREAKING NEWS

Newsmax (and all other major news organizations) are reporting that the vote taken early this afternoon in the US House of Representatives (“House”) resulted in 220 votes for Republican Congressman Mike Johnson of Louisiana – electing him to be the Speaker of the House.  The minimum number of votes needed was 217.

As with the previous three voting sessions this month, democrats cast 209 votes for Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Now that Speaker Johnson has been elected, Louisiana has two high-ranking GOP leaders, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.

Elected to the House in 2016, Speaker Johnson is a strong social conservative who previously served as a member of former president Donald J. Trump’s congressional defense team during his first impeachment trial.

Speaker Johnson spoke following the nomination, saying that “democracy is messy sometimes, but it is our system” and “we’re going to restore your trust in what we do here.”

Lord knows that this has been a rough time for there to have been a three-week absence in the position of Speaker, but hopefully the House will now move forward quickly with the nation’s business.  And, hopefully the GOP will unify and speak with a consistent and clear voice.

Let’s be sure to pray for Speaker Johnson, that God would grant him wisdom and favor in his judgment and leadership!

With the world on the brink of war, this is not the time for continuing brinksmanship.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NLT)
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people.  Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.  Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
