CBN News is reporting about the United States (“US”) Senate Judiciary Committee’s recent attempt to force an ethics code of conduct upon the Supreme Court of the United States (“SCOTUS”).

Chief Justice John Roberts recently declined an invitation to testify before the committee, citing concerns based on the US Constitution’s separation of powers between the three independent branches of federal government (Administrative, Legislative and Judicial).

During the committee’s May 2, 2023 hearing, expert witnesses disagreed as to whether Congress had the power to enforce such a policy upon the SCOTUS – given that the US Constitution deems the Judicial and Legislative branches as co-equal.

In response to the committee’s concerns regarding an ethics code of conduct for the SCOTUS and his refusal to testify before the committee, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. sent Senator Richard J. Durbin, Chairman, Senate Judiciary Committee, a letter explaining his position – Chief Justice Roberts 4-25-2023 Letter to Senator Durbin.

My brothers and sisters, FGGAM does not exist to tout the virtues of the various political parties in the US, but rather, to exalt Jesus, and to present news and commentary from the perspective of a biblical world view!

That said, the authority of civil government (Ref. Romans 13:1-7) is necessary for good order and is ordained of God.  Even Moses established procedures to mediate complaints and to judge persons’ actions (Ref. Exodus 18:25-26).  Of course, it would be misguided to interpret Romans 13 to mean that we should blindly follow sinful and non-biblical governmental laws or commands, as some might believe.

Disclaimer – The following is political commentary:  So, with the foregoing in mind, isn’t it “rich” that political leaders such as Senator Durbin pretend to be morally concerned about a couple financial disclosures following years of ignoring significant allegations against a president and administration alleged to be rife with violations of law, including matters that may have affected the nation’s security and even the integrity of our government itself?  It’s completely obvious that the concern is about the judicial decisions of the court, not the integrity of the court.

Referenced scriptures:

Romans 13:1-7 (NKJV)
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.  Therefore[,] whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil.  Do you want to be unafraid of the authority?  Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.  For he is God’s minister to you for good.  But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.  Therefore[,] you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.  For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.  Render[,] therefore[,] to all their due:  taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”

Exodus 18:25-26 (NKJV)
“And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people:  rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.  So they judged the people at all times; the hard cases they brought to Moses, but they judged every small case themselves.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
