Community Re-Entry Guidelines Established for Some Dog Head Fire Evacuees

Residents urged to use caution when re-entering properties

Estancia, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has established a limited plan of re-entry for residents in some of the Dog Head Fire evacuation areas. A path of entry for residents will be established and re-entry will begin at 8:00am on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Sheriff’s deputies and National Guard personnel will be stationed along central entry points, checking identification to ensure that only residents are accessing those areas.

BCSO is working with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) to have speeds temporarily reduced along the impacted re-entry roadways. Heavy law enforcement presence on those roadways necessitates lower speeds.

For those evacuees who reside in Torrance County who live south of La Para, they will be allowed to return to their homes at 8:00am on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 as well. Law enforcement personnel will be checking identification for residency verification. All evacuations will remain in place for the area north of La Para, east and west to the Torrance County Line. Law enforcement will continue patrols throughout all affected areas, including the evacuation zones.

In addition to the work being done by BCSO and Torrance County, PNM will begin activities to restore power beginning at 6:00am. Power will be restored in phases to the 368 customers in the mandatory evacuation area, initiating in the area from NM 14 and NM 217, south towards Chilili. Any residents who remained in the area despite the mandatory evacuation order must disconnect all backup generators currently in use by 6:00am Tuesday morning. Generators in use create a sever safety hazard to the general public, firefighters, and PNM crews. Please make room for PNM trucks and crews working in the area. The same procedures apply for customers of Central New Mexico Power Cooperative.

Multiple road closures will remain in effect, particularly in the Chilili area. Those closures are from Raquel Road in Escobosa in the north and south to the Bernalillo County line. Residents in the northeastern areas of the evacuation areas will need to return from the northeast.
