The family of a terminally ill 2-year-old Jeannette boy has been overwhelmed by an outpouring of support from people who have never met the family.
“For such a small person, he has touched thousands of people,” said Kellie Young, an aunt of Logan Stevenson, whose parents plan to marry on Saturday in a bittersweet impromptu ceremony.
Logan’s great-aunt Beverly Waugaman will be accepting donations on Thursday and Friday between 1 and 4 p.m. at the Youngwood Moose along South Third Street.
The drop-off point is in response to an article published in Wednesday’s Tribune-Review detailing Logan’s battle with cancer and his planned stint as best man in his parents’ wedding on Saturday.
“It was just a huge outpour just from the article,” Young said.
Saturday’s backyard ceremony will serve as a celebration of Logan’s life.
Christine Swidorsky and Sean Stevenson decided to nix plans for a July 2014 wedding and tie the knot this weekend so Logan could be present for their official union.
Swidorsky plans to carry Logan down the aisle.
In his short life, Logan has battled cancer and has undergone the removal of a kidney and a stem-cell transplant. He has Fanconi anemia, a rare disease that often leads to cancer.
After a final trip to the hospital in July, a test revealed a mass in Logan’s remaining kidney. Doctors told Swidorsky and Stevenson to take their son home last Friday. Logan was given two to three weeks to live.
He is spending his final days resting at his parents’ Jeannette home.
