Military Chiefs Meet in Saudi Arabia to Discuss War Against Islamic State

Diplomatic sources in Saudi Arabia told reporters on Wednesday that a gathering was being held of military leaders from around the world to discuss the battle against the Islamic State (IS) terror militia. The meeting comes a day after the US and Turkey announced an agreement in principle to cooperate in an effort to train and equip at least 2,000 Syrian fighters this year, but without coming to an agreement about whether this force would be directed against IS or Syria’s Assad regime. Training programs are also planned to take place in Jordan and Saudi Arabia, with Washington declaring its hope to stand up a force of 15,000 by the end of 2018.
