We Need a Month Dedicated to Humility if We Hope to Avoid the Coming Trouble

Hopefully, most followers of Jesus understand the societal problem of celebrating Pride Month dedicated to a sinful and rebellious lifestyle.

However, our nation is doing just that. On Friday, May 31st, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, officially dedicated by proclamation the month of June to the pride of various forms of sexual immorality.

The proclamation was titled, “A Proclamation on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month, 2024” and started out with the sentence, “During Pride Month, we celebrate the extraordinary courage and contributions of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) community,”

President Biden was both celebrated and mocked on various social media platforms as he also showed support for the mutilation of minors on the altar of transgenderism while invoking the image of God as justification.

He posted on X, “To the entire LGBTQI+ community — and especially transgender children — please know that your President and my entire Administration have your back.  We see you for who you are:  made in the image of God and deserving of dignity, respect, and support.”

What is little understood by Joe Biden and so many others who believe themselves to be Christians is that God is not mocked and that pride goes before destruction.

“Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.” -Proverbs 16:18

Romans 10 and 11 explain that while the Lord has not abandoned Israel, He has allowed blindness among His people because of the pride and arrogance they had regarding their own righteousness.

This issue of pride is so foundational to the Christian faith that it is what can lead to the unforgivable sin, namely the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

That occurs at the personal level and can lead to national punishment and trouble in all areas of a country’s life from economics to immigration to reproduction.

Responding to King Solomon’s incredible show of honor and humility at the beginning of his reign, the Lord made a prescriptive statement on how to repair a broken and sinful nation.

“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14

The cure to a broken nation is not necessarily different leaders but different people. People will have to reject pride in their sin and humble themselves to the point of repentance.

Such talk will bring down the cancel culture for sure but it is the talk we need to have. While we are overly concerned about re-electing Joe Biden or Donald Trump (and both bring different trouble), what we really need is to examine ourselves and be truly horrified by the wickedness we see there.

In order to see the truth of our condition we must humble ourselves, which is practically impossible, so what is to be done?

Christians must speak the truth in love. But such rebuke doesn’t always seem kind and loving. The stakes are such that boldness is required. Elijah didn’t take it easy on the worshipers of Baal, John the Baptist gave so much opposition to sin that he lost his head and Jesus challenged the leaders of His day so much that He was hung upon a cross.

Trouble is coming to our modern world, and the signs of the brewing storm are all around us. While so many are taking pride in their sin, believers should call out the idiocy of it all by reminding people that “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

Let us make June humility month instead of pride month.
