KOB 4 News (Albuquerque, NM) reports that New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham held a ceremony at Albuquerque’s West Mesa High School yesterday (3/4/2024), where she signed four public safety bills into law.

The signed legislation included HB 129, Firearm Sale Waiting Period Crimes; SB 5, Firearms Near Polling Places; SB 96, Increase Attempted Murder Penalty; and SB 271, Repeat Felony Offender No Bond Hold.

The new laws establish a statewide seven-day waiting period for the purchase of firearms, prohibit the carrying firearms within 100 feet of polling places, and increase the maximum sentences for 2nd degree murder and attempted 2nd degree murder.

Governor Lujan Grisham has publicly stated for many days now that she is leaning toward calling a special session of the legislature to address additional public safety issues, and in particular, a criminal competency bill and restrictions on panhandling.

FGGAM’s Co-Founder and Publisher, Pastor Dewey Moede, has reported for years on the incredibly crime-ridden conditions in New Mexico, and especially in the greater Albuquerque area.  It is notable to this writer that the newly-signed legislation, despite the governor’s recent emergency public health orders focusing on firearms-related crime and drugs, continues to focus on law-abiding citizens – not criminals.  Criminals don’t care about waiting periods because they aren’t generally purchasing their weapons at gun stores using ID and having background checks accomplished.

Please continue to pray that New Mexico’s governor, legislators and other elected or appointed leaders will seek the wisdom of God in all of their work.  New Mexico is an incredibly beautiful state with so much potential, yet, the evil one continues to infiltrate the culture through unrepentant crime, rampant drug use, free-wheeling abortion and excessively partisan civil government.  The Answer remains and will always be, Jesus!

Trust in the Lord!

Proverbs 2:6 (NKJV)
“For the Lord gives wisdom; [f]rom His mouth come knowledge and understanding…”.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, [a]nd lean not on your own understanding; [i]n all your ways acknowledge Him, [a]nd He shall direct your paths.”

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
“For unto us a Child is born, [u]nto us a Son is given; [a]nd the government will be upon His shoulder [emphasis mine].  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
