KOB 4 News (Albuquerque, NM) reports that on Thursday (2/15/2024), University of New Mexico (“UNM”) students walked out of classes in protest and demanded that the UNM Board of Regents call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War.

A UNM student, Bryana Omeda, said that the Board of Regents has a responsibility to uphold its mission statement to, in part, “generate intellectual and cultural contributions.”

Another UNM student, Alex McDonough, who is a member of New Mexico Jews For Free Palestine, declared that “Zionism is a form of racism, and we are fighting against racism for everyone.  That is why there are tons of Jewish people as a part of this movement.  We are working side by side against Christians and Muslims and Catholics.”

In a related matter, Meow Wolf canceled a musical performance by Matthew Paul Miller – known as “Matisyahu,” because of multiple calls from activists demanding the cancelation because of Matisyahu’s strong support for Israel.

My brothers and sisters, it is striking that UNM students (and so many others in New Mexico) seem to simply accept the premise that Israel is an occupying force, Zionism is racism, and that Israel, in defending itself from an atrocity, is committing genocide.  It is equally striking that a UNM student would proudly proclaim that he belongs to a movement that is focused AGAINST “Christians, Muslims and Catholics.”

There is no mention of repeated war and terrorist attacks against Israel since WWII, the October 7, 2023 Iran-sponsored terrorist attack against innocent Israeli civilians, and Hamas’ taking of hostages.

According to History[.com], “Zionism is a religious and political effort that brought thousands of Jews from around the world back to their ancient homeland in the Middle East and reestablished Israel as the central location for Jewish identity.  While some critics call Zionism an aggressive and discriminatory ideology that has forcibly pushed out Palestinians, the Zionist movement has successfully established a Jewish homeland in the nation of Israel.”

As believers, let’s pray that our students and all of our youth are afforded a true education about WWII history (and earlier) that is not completely biased against the truth of the bible and the actual events of the Holocaust.  How quickly the slaughter of millions of Jews is forgotten!  How quickly it is forgotten that the Jews are God’s chosen people (see Deuteronomy 7:6)!  How quickly the Holy Land (see Zechariah 2:8-10), where Christ was born on earth and will return, is discarded in human hearts!

The Truth is a Person and His name is Jesus (see John 14:6)!  There is one way, and one way only, to be reconciled unto the Father and to have the assurance of eternal life in heaven – and that is to put your trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior (see John 3:16-18).

Here are the above-referenced scriptures:

Deuteronomy 7:6 (NKJV)
“For you [the Jews] are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”

Zechariah 2:8-10 (NKJV)
“For thus says the Lord of hosts:  ‘He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.  For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants.  Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.  Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion [Jerusalem]!  For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,’ says the Lord.”

John 14:6 (NKJV)
“Jesus said to [Thomas], ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

John 3:16-18 (ESV)
“For God so loved the world, that [H]e gave [H]is only Son, that whoever believes in [H]im should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send [H]is Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through [H]im.  Whoever believes in [H]im is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
