CHURCH LEADERS recently published an article discussing how the bible emphasizes the importance of preachers and preaching, highlighting their role in spreading the word of God and nurturing the faith of believers.  The article cites 2 Timothy 4:2, which tells believers to preach the word and to correct, rebuke or encourage others with great patience and careful instruction.

The article goes on to say that preachers play a vital role in communities, serving as spiritual leaders, teachers, and guides, and that they deliver sermons and messages which inspire, educate and provide guidance to their congregations; however, the role of a preacher extends beyond simply delivering a sermon on Sundays, as they are often involved in pastoral ministry – including the counseling of individuals or families (soul care).

My brothers and sisters, Jesus set the example and preached the kingdom of God while He walked on the earth (see Matthew 9:35).

The bible says that all scripture is profitable for instruction in righteousness and allows us to be complete and thoroughly equipped for every good work (see 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Paul tells us that faith in Christ comes from hearing the word of God (see Romans 10:17), so how can one “hear” unto faith if the word of God is not preached (see Romans 10:14-15)?

In fact, Paul charges Timothy to preach the word, to be ready in season and out of season, and to convince, rebuke and exhort with all longsuffering and teaching (see 2 Timothy 4:1-4).

Here are the above-referenced scriptures:

Matthew 9:35 (NKJV)
The Compassion of Jesus
“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom [emphasis mine], and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Romans 10:14-15 (NKJV)
Israel Rejects the Gospel
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?  And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?  And how shall they hear without a preacher [emphasis mine]?  And how shall they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written:  ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, [w]ho bring glad tidings of good things!’”

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (NKJV)
“I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:  Preach the word!  Be ready in season and out of season.  Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching [emphasis mine].  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
