BREAKING NEWS

Fox News (and all other major news outlets) is reporting that three U.S. service members were killed and dozens wounded earlier today (1/28/2024) in a drone attack on the Tower 22 outpost in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border.  It is possible that the number of those killed or injured may increase.  It is believed that most or all of those killed or injured are U.S. Army soldiers.

Today’s attack marks a significant escalation in the Middle East, as it is the first time U.S. troops have been killed by enemy fire since the Israel-Hamas war began.  President Joe Biden stated that “while we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate have begun expressing the need for the Biden Administration to take decisive and immediate action against Iran.  According to U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), “Iran’s proxies have launched over 150 attacks on U.S. troops since October [2023], as the Iran-backed Houthis attack global shipping, and Iran-backed Hezbollah and Hamas attack our ally Israel.”

Newsmax reports that dozens of the injured may be under evaluation for possible traumatic brain injury (“TBI”), according to an unnamed U.S. official speaking on the condition of anonymity.  The drone apparently struck near the barracks in the early in the morning, which may explain the high number of casualties.

Although the Biden Administration has so far maintained the position that the United States is not at war in the Middle East, its military has been regularly retaliating against Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria, and carrying out strikes against Yemen’s Houthi military capabilities.

The White House released a statement today in which President Joe Biden said that “we will carry on their commitment to fight terrorism.  And have no doubt; we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing.”

My brothers and sisters, we are living in perilous times.

Whether on the U.S. home front, where immigration policy differences between Democrats and Republicans, and the federal government and state governments (e.g., Texas), are resulting in concern about a potential civil war; or in the Middle East where the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza (Israel) is causing global concern; or in Europe where the ongoing war between Russian and Ukraine is causing concern with NATO-aligned countries as Russia threatens the use of nuclear weapons, and food and energy disruptions; the potential for any one of these situations (and others not mentioned, such as North Korea and Taiwan/China) to suddenly plunge much of the world into “WWIII” seems more likely than ever before.

Praise God that as believers, we know who holds the true power, not only in our world, but in the entire universe!

If you are willing, please pray and speak wisdom over our leaders and the leaders of the world.  Pray that the Holy Spirit would touch the souls (minds, wills and emotions) of those with hatred and fear in their hearts, and who are instigating warfare against the U.S. and other allied and freedom-loving countries.  May the peace of God and His compassion change hearts and bring peace that is beyond our human understanding, right now, in Jesus’ name.  We thank You Lord!  We give You all the praise, honor and glory!  Amen.

Here is some supporting scripture:

Proverbs 2:6 (NKJV)
“For the Lord gives wisdom; [f]rom His mouth come knowledge and understanding…”.

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NLT)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.  As the Scriptures say, ‘He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.’”

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

1 Timothy 2:1-3 (ESV)
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions [emphasis mine], that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.  This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior…”.

Praise Jesus forevermore!
