“Children are not a distraction from more important work, they are the most important work.” C.S. Lewis

I asked Pro-Life leader Ethel Maharg of Love Life to write about Sanctity of Life Sunday. Thank you Sister for sharing with us, we are thankful for your years of service to God’s babies.

Orlie asked his doctor, “What will happen if I don’t go through with this heart surgery.” The doctor said, “you won’t live long, but the choice is yours,” then asked him what he wanted to do. Orlie said, “Dr. I choose life, I  want to live.”

Two years ago on January 2nd Damar Hamlin dropped dead for all intents on the football field. Thank God he lived, but what happened when he fell is noteworthy. A hush fell over the entire stadium. Every ball player fell to their knees in prayer and above the crowd the jumbotron read, “Pray for Damar.” There were no protests from anyone, just prayer because the situation was dire, and Damar’s life hung in the balance. Truly he needed God’s intervention.

You may ask why am I talking about these two men and their stories? They both prove that life is precious and needs to be valued, promoted, and protected. In contrast we have not only not protected life, we have promoted the killing of innocent lives in the womb. There are no stadiums full of people silently praying or entire teams on a football field on their knees before God begging for their lives. No jumbotrons saying pray for the babies struggling to live. Crickets. And certainly, they can’t say to the doctor. I choose life. I want to live.

Sunday January 21st is Sanctity of Life Sunday. This is the day where we commemorate the loss of over 50 million children’s lives to abortion.

Roe vs. Wade was overturned almost 2 years ago, yet in our state it has become the reason to promote more abortions than ever.  Women are traveling to our state as our Governor promotes us a sanctuary for abortion.  We are seeing record number of abortions being committed and most of those are on women from other states. Like Damar we are in desperate need of God’s intervention.

It has become the number one, yes number one issue of our day, yet we remain silent. Crickets.  The church must rise up and take her place. We can no longer be silent while millions of lives are needlessly lost and families are devastated by this loss. That place right now is at the abortion clinics of our cities.

Having served in the Pro-life movement for over a decade I have come to the conclusion that if the Church engages fully, abortion will end. No laws are going to end abortion. We don’t need new laws, we need a heart transplant. We need the gospel to be preached now more than ever. We need to pray now more than ever, and we need to be fully engaged in this battle until we see victory.

On Sunday January 21st Calvary Rio Rancho will be hosting a presentation by Living Word featuring Ray Comfort’s movie “What is it.” If you believe in the Sanctity of Life, you need to be there. 1Corinthians 4:20  (NLT) says For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.

We need to put feet to our prayers. Like Love Life Founder Justin Reeder says, “Everyone can do something.” Let’s do our something.

On February 10 we will begin our 40-week journey of hope where Pastors throughout our city and state will invite their flocks to go to the abortion clinic and pray. If you or your church are not part of this great move of God, please contact us to see how you can get involved.  Go to Love Life and learn about our mission to unite and mobilize the church to create a culture of love and life that will result in an end to abortion and the orphan crisis.  Come and join us. Above is a walk so you can see what happens when the church is present to provide hope and healing.
