Loving Jesus More Than Theology

J.A. Medders: Doctrine is dangerous. We must handle it with care. Paul reminds us that, “Now the goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:5). Love is the aroma of theology. Love for Jesus, love for others, and love for truth. And Paul warns us what happens when we swerve from love being the goal, “Some have departed from these and turned aside to fruitless discussion. They want to be teachers of the law, although they don’t understand what they are saying or what they are insisting on” (1 Timothy 1:6–7). Without love, Paul says we don’t even know what we are talking about. We are noisy gongs, feed-backing microphones, nothing burgers (1 Corinthians 13:1–3).

I wanted to share this with you all. This message by J.A. Medders should make you think. Like many of you, I have been around the block more than a few times. I get sad when a person can quote me about every verse in the Bible and explains what it means, but needs to have his or her heart softened. It turns me off. Maybe it is because I love JESUS from the top of my head to my toes and all people. Theology doesn’t mean much when you are fulfilling the Great Commission. America is full of non-believers, more than ever in my lifetime. Only 4% of Americans have a Biblical Worldview. These folks want to see your heart in action. My frustration with the American Church is that it mainly stays within it walls and is not relating to those that do not beleive.

What are Christians doing with their theology? Please take that theology with a heart of the love of JESUS and hit the streets and make a difference in your community, share it! The country is going to hell and it is way beyond time all Christians get going and hit the streets and share the love of JESUS. Communicate and build relationships with unbelievers. We are not to be a coffee club, we are to be God’s Church. What are you doing with your Biblical knowledge?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another:
just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

By this all people will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.
John 13:34-35

The love of JESUS conquers all.

As J.A. Medders shares, doctrine can be dangerous.

One of the greatest dangers for studious Christians is loving the study of God more than God himself. We love books. We love to love God with our minds. Yes and amen. So did the Apostle Paul; he asks Timothy to bring his cloak and his books (2 Timothy 4:13). God commands us to love him with our minds (Matthew 22:36–37). But the key to the Great Commandment is that we are commanded to love Him. Not merely the study of Him. Not only books about him, but God himself. And if we are honest, we get these confused. A shelf of hardback books doesn’t fulfill the great commandment. Study of scripture cannot be separated from loving God and others. If it is, we are washing the outside of the cup more than we realize. More Here

Keith Mathison: As Christians, one of our primary tasks is to share the good news with those who desperately need it, and who needs it more than those who are lost. In order to do this our attitudes need to be completely re-shaped and conformed to Christ. Rather than hate that lost person because he or she is doing what any biblically informed Christian should expect a totally depraved sinner to do, namely sin, we should pray for them. Show them the compassion and love of Christ. Tell them that life is not meaningless. Tell them that with Christ, there is light at the end of the tunnel, eternal light. We cannot simply assume that a lost person is a lost cause. No One Shared the Gospel with Me

The Scriptures call the mind of the natural man “blinded” 2 Cor. 4:4, “depraved” Romans 1:28, “corrupt” 1 Tim. 6:5, and “unspiritual” Col. 2:18. The natural mind thinks from a humanistic, sin-debased viewpoint. The viewpoint of the flesh directs its thoughts. The sinful mind is under the control of Satan and can never please God because it concentrates on things of the world and not things of the Spirit. The natural mind walks the road of hopelessness and self-destruction.

Christmas Week in Albuquerque: Riot at Juvenile Detention Center and More Deaths and Violent Crime

Dr. Jim Denison posted this today:

I wanted to share Paul Kingsnorth’s thoughtful analysis so I could emphasize his point: Religion is “not . . . a set of beliefs to be adhered to, or arguments to be made and defended. It is an experience to be immersed in.”

If you and I will be “immersed in” Jesus across the new year, we can be catalysts for the moral and spiritual renewal our broken culture needs so desperately. But only then.

If Jesus is your Lord, the God who created the universe is living in your life.

Is he living through your life today?
