The Jerusalem Post reported yesterday (12/21/2023) that the Israel Defense Forces (“IDF”) destroyed a maze of subterranean tunnels after learning that Hamas leadership had taken control of the “senior quarter” of Gaza City.

The destroyed network of tunnels reportedly contained apartments, offices and living quarters of senior Hamas officials, and they led to above-ground sites in the Shejaia neighborhoods of Palestine Square.

Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar and Muhammad Deif reportedly used this network to manage Hamas’ operations and movements through the center of Gaza City, which was nicknamed “Commander’s Square.”

My brothers and sisters, this situation reminded me right away about evil not being able to withstand the light of day – with evil preferring to operate underground and in the darkness.  Jesus is the light of the world.  Light always destroys evil.  The Truth is a person and His name is Jesus.  Jesus has overcome the world.  Sin has been defeated!

Scripture tells us that what is spoken in the dark with be heard in the light of day (see Luke 12:1-3); that those who do wicked things hate the light, not wanting their evil deeds to be exposed (see John 3:19-20); and that Jesus is the light of the world and in Him there is no darkness at all (see John 8:12, John 9:4-6 and 1 John 1:5-6).

Scripture also tells us, through Apostle Paul, that we, as followers and carriers of the light of Jesus, are to shine the light of Jesus in the world (see Philippians 2:14-16).  Amen!

Here are the above-referenced scriptures:

Luke 12:1-3 (NKJV)
A Warning from Jesus to the Disciples – Beware of Hypocrisy
“…first of all, ‘[b]eware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.  For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.  Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light [emphasis mine], and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.’”

John 3:19-20 (ESV)
“And this is the judgment:  the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.  For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed [emphasis mine].”

John 8:12 (NKJV)
Jesus is the Light of the World
“Then Jesus (speaking to the scribes and Pharisees) spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world [emphasis mine].  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”

John 9:4-6 (NKJV)
Jesus Heals the Blind Man / References Coming Evil (Darkness)
“‘I (Jesus) must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.  As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world [emphasis mine].’  When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.”

Philippians 2:14-16 (NKJV)
Paul Tells Disciples To Shine As Lights In The World
“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world [emphasis mine], holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”

1 John 1:5-6 (NKJV)
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all [emphasis mine].  If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
