MSN is reporting that Iran has been appointed to chair the United Nation’s (“UN”) Human Rights Council during today’s 2023 Social Forum, with many member nations critical of this decision because of Tehran’s decades-long record of human rights abuses and terrorism.

Ambassador Michele Taylor, United States (“US”) Permanent Representative to the Human Rights Council, wrote in a prepared statement that “[t]he United States finds it absurd that an official from the Iranian regime will assume the role of Chair for the Human Rights Council’s one-day Social Forum.”

Ambassador Taylor further stated that “the US categorically refuses to sit, converse or engage in any discussion on human rights chaired by Iran.”

My brothers and sisters, this should practically go without saying, but if there was one member state of the UN which should NEVER touch, let along lead, any committee or meeting involving human rights, the first name on the list would be Iran.

This serves to prove what so many have been saying for years – which is that the UN has failed, consistently, and there is little to no reason this writer can see for continuing to support it.  As the UN currently exists, Russia and China are permanent voting members of the Security Council, and member states routinely approve any and all resolutions against Israel (the only true democratic nation and strong US ally in the entire Middle East) while ignoring terrorism and human rights violations elsewhere.

I simply see no reason to continue to subsidize this organization’s operations and to provide for its facilities on US soil (New York).  With the world split wide open ideologically, politically and in matters of faith (or the lack thereof), attempts to appease evil instead of hitting it head on are clearly not working.

Civil government is of God and provides for an orderly society, given man’s propensity to sin (Ref. Romans 13); however, civil government (whether local, national or international) does not supplant God’s law and instructions found in the scriptures.  For example, abortion may be “legal” in some places under civil law, but it will never be acceptable to God, as it is the intentionally killing of innocent human life and is completely contrary to the bible.

If you are willing, let’s pray that Christian leaders across the globe would be able to impart godly wisdom into the leadership and membership of the UN, and that the UN’s member states would learn to operate with compassion and godly love for all men and women.  May there be a strong desire to see the nations of the world move toward freedom once again and to renounce oppression.  And, Lord, please make it clear to our leaders if it becomes necessary to step aside or depart from this organization.  Thank You, Father.  We ask these things in Jesus’ name!  Amen.

Some scripture to consider:

Proverbs 15:28 (NLT)
“The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.”

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, [a]nd those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV)
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; [w]ho put darkness for light, and light for darkness; [w]ho put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Romans 13:1 (NKJV)
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NLT)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, ‘He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.’”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
