We are so very blessed to have another message from Kathy Branzell of National Day of Prayer:

He (David) said, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.  I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.” For the waves of death encompassed me, the torrents of destruction assailed me; the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. “In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I called. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry came to his ears.  “Then the earth reeled and rocked; the foundations of the heavens trembled and quaked, because he was angry.  Smoke went up from his nostrils, and devouring fire from his mouth; glowing coals flamed forth from him. He bowed the heavens and came down; thick darkness was under his feet. He rode on a cherub and flew; he was seen on the wings of the wind. He made darkness around him his canopy, thick clouds, a gathering of water. Out of the brightness before him coals of fire flamed forth. The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice. And he sent out arrows and scattered them; lightning, and routed them. Then the channels of the sea were seen; the foundations of the world were laid bare, at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. “He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters. He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me…You save a humble people, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them down. 2 Samuel 22:3-20 & 28

Reflection

This song was written by David on the day God delivered him from his enemies and King Saul. It is not melodramatic but speaks to the power and glory of our God who hears our cries of distress and comes to our defense. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.”

When you pray, do you picture God’s heart and hands moving to help you with the same passion and power that David pens and praises? Are our cries filled with confidence that God not only hears us but cares for us and is ABLE to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we ask or imagine?

Do we feel the earth and the knees of our enemy shake as God stands up for us; do we feel the heat coming from His breath as His Holy vengeance brings victory in ways no earthly plan could ever hope to succeed?

Friends, we must learn to pray BIGGER, BRIGHTER, BOLDER prayers with God’s power and promises in view of what He can and will do. Please understand these are not empty declarations of man’s preferences and demands on God but intercession directly and contextually connected to the unchanging attributes, promises, prophecies, and precepts found in Scripture, and lifted up in the humble cry for help and for the glory of God to be declared. When asked, “What’s the matter?” read God’s Word and declare His praise as the “Truth” of the matter. Introduce your problems to your Prince of Peace, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Walk and worship in the reality that God is our warrior no enemy can stand against.

About the National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May. The next National Day of Prayer is May 2, 2024.

How We Can Pray

As we step into November, our attention turns to deeper prayer for our Military, with tender hearts for all who have been terrorized by wickedness and war-torn parts of our world. Israel and Ukraine are among those who have been attacked and innocent blood shed in acts of aggression and terror. Military members were brought back on active duty and young adults faced war for the first time. The entire world is on alert and military members around the world are willing to respond. Please continue to pray for them and their families. Pray God’s power, provision, and protection from Scripture over them and picture God’s response as you pray.

We dare not give evil a passing glance and quickly look away claiming we are frail or do not want to expose ourselves to pain and suffering. We MUST stand and stare it down, glare evil in the face and without wavering, armored up in the full armor of God, we must pray and stand. It is time to quit hiding away our light; we were not meant to play defense, turning our dimmer switch to that of a nightlight that simply guides our way through the darkness. We are called to be LIGHT to expose and dispel the darkness! It is time to go to the frontlines and take back all the ground the enemy has stolen in every area of influence in America and around the world. It is time to stand and pray and watch as our prayers move the heart and hands of God and avail much! We MUST “Lift Up the Word and Light Up the World!”

Would you please pray with me now?

Lord our rock, in whom we take refuge, our shield, and the horn of our salvation, our stronghold and our refuge, our savior; You save us from violence. We lift up our military members and families to You and proclaim from 2 Samuel 22:29-31 that You Lord are their Lamp, the God who lightens their darkness. For by you they can run against a troop, and by our God they can leap over a wall. Your way is perfect, and Your Word proves true. You are a shield for all who take refuge in You. Thank you for going before them, for covering them with Your shield and thwarting the schemes of the enemy. Strengthen them to tear down strongholds as You are their strong tower. In the mighty, powerful, perfect name of Jesus we pray, Amen!

Serving Him with gladness,

Kathy Branzell
