USA Today reports that a new Ukrainian defense minister, an encouraging visit from US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, and a fresh injection of $1 billion in US aid is fueling optimism in Ukraine this week – although the overall impact of these items remains to be seen.  Ukrainian and US officials believe the impact will be positive, but others are not convinced.

According to Steven Myers, who is a USAF veteran, an expert on Russia, and a member of the US State Department’s Advisory Panel, Ukraine’s attacks on Russian territory usually result in drones smashing high-rise windows in Moscow.  By comparison, a Russian rocket attack yesterday (9/6/2023) in the eastern Ukraine city of Kostiantynivka struck a downtown market, killing 17 civilians only hours after Secretary Blinken’s arrival in Kyiv.

Myers cites the lack of an effective counter strategy for Ukraine.  He says that Ukraine is in “deep trouble” and believes that Ukraine and the Western nations badly need an exit strategy.

My brothers and sisters, it saddens my heart to realize how many thousands upon thousands of lives have been lost as a result of Russia’s attack upon Ukraine.  The destruction of so many cities and the country’s infrastructure is devastating.

The money spent by the US and other western/EU countries is staggering and should never have become necessary.  Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, and his military leaders are evil-minded persons.  The assault on the sovereign land of Ukraine must not be allowed to stand!

Let’s continue to pray for God to change hearts and bring an end to this needless bloodshed.  Pray that western nations do not become desensitized to the evil that is happening in Ukraine every day.  Sometimes doing the right thing is not simple, easy or quick – but it’s still the right thing!

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
