Multiple news agencies are reporting on several massive, wind-blown fires currently burning on the Island of Maui in Hawaii.  A wildfire has destroyed much of the popular tourist town of Lahaina, which is located along the northwest perimeter of the island.  Many of those in Lahaina had to jump into the ocean to escape the flames and others have been airlifted to Honolulu for medical treatment.

Today, CNN is reporting that wildfires on the Island of Maui are raging out of control and are so catastrophic that some residents are hurling themselves into the ocean to escape the flames.  The fires are being fueled, at least in part, by winds from Hurricane Dora churning about 800 miles away.  The fires have wiped out power to about 14,000 homes or businesses, with 911, cellular and telephone services cut off.

Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor, Sylvia Luke, told CNN that Maui’s hospital system was “overburdened with burn patients [and] people suffering from inhalation.”

UPDATE: At least 36 people have been killed in “unprecedented” wildfires that are raging across Hawaii’s Big Island and Maui, officials said Wednesday.

My brothers and sisters, this is a sad and dangerous situation that is destroying homes, livelihood and even lives.  Let’s be sure to pray for an end to the fires and safety for all of those (humans and animals) on the ground in Hawaii.  Lord have mercy.

Psalm 119:132 (NLT)
“Come and show me [Y]our mercy, as [Y]ou do for all who love [Y]our name.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
