ORIGINAL REPORT – The Associated Press (“AP News”) reports that the Iowa Legislature began a rare special session today, with Republicans seeking to enact a ban on abortion after approximately six weeks of pregnancy.

The proposed legislation is similar to a 2018 law that the Iowa Supreme Court declined to reinstate, and would prohibit abortion once cardiac activity can be detected – which usually happens on or about the sixth week of pregnancy.  The special session was called by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

American Family News (“AFN”) is also reporting in this matter.  Persons demonstrating both for and against the proposed legislation have filled the Iowa Capitol.

A local Des Moines demonstrator, Tim Rutledge, who brought his eight year old son to the demonstration, said that “[h]ealth care is a human right.  All people should be able to make decisions about their own bodies.  The fact that our governor and elected officials cannot, or do not, recognize this is unconscionable.”

My brothers and sisters, we live in a time where persons sometimes refer to abortion as a “human right” and consider any restrictions to be an infringement upon a woman’s rights and even her body.  The body that is actually infringed upon (mortally) is that of the unborn baby!

Our God does not make “mistakes.”  Every child (born or unborn) is created in the very image of God.  God knew us before we were ever knitted together in our mothers’ wombs.

As a nation and as individuals, I pray we would repent for leaning on our own wisdom and for embracing a culture of death (e.g., abortion) in our governmental agencies and even in many of our own souls.  Father, I ask that You would open the eyes of our understanding, and help us to seek and embrace Your wisdom in all things, in Jesus’ name!

Supporting scripture:

Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Exodus 20:13 (Amplified Bible)
“You shall not commit murder (unjustified, deliberate homicide).”

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT)
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.  Thank [Y]ou for making me so wonderfully complex!  Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”

Isaiah 5:20-21 (NKJV)
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; [w]ho put darkness for light, and light for darkness; [w]ho put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, [a]nd prudent in their own sight!”

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NKJV)
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.  For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness…'”.

Praise Jesus forevermore!
