I have read so many precious tributes on Facebook about Cody Godinez and his family. We are praying for this wonderful family that is loved by so very, very many.

Thanks to Nathan Lederman of the Santa Fe New Mexican for this story

How to help

A fundraising campaign to help pay for funeral costs for Cody Godinez, 27, who died in a fire June 12 near Stanley, and to cover medical costs for his mother, Karen Godinez, who was wounded in the blaze, has been set up at GoFundMe. Visit tinyurl.com/y84xcs7f to donate to the family.

This message has extra meaning for me as I prepare a graveside service for baby Lilly this morning in Albuquerque. I am still grieving the loss of my precious brother-in-law Paul Rogers. Please pray for my sister Deb and family. When I got back from Paul’s funeral in Minnesota, I had two funerals to do here in Albuquerque. Please do not take life for granted. Extend your love to all.

1. Love never dies.

There will never come a day, hour, minute or second I stop loving or thinking about my son. Just as parents of living children unconditionally love their children always and forever, so do bereaved parents. I want to say and hear his name just the same as non-bereaved parents do. I want to speak about my deceased child as normally and naturally as you speak of your living ones.

I love my child just as much as you love yours — the only difference is mine lives in heaven and talking about him is unfortunately quite taboo in our culture.
