CBS News reports today that World Health Organization (“WHO”) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has officially declared that COVID-19 no longer qualifies as a global emergency.  The COVID-19 pandemic upended national economies and killed at least million persons worldwide.

According to the WHO, more than 13 billion doses of various COVID-19 vaccines have been administered around the globe, but some will become ill even after receiving vaccinations.

CNN is also reporting in this matter.  WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus said that “[f]or more than a year the pandemic has been on a downward trend” allowing “most countries to return to life as we knew it before COVID-19.”

As for the United States, President Joe Biden signed H.J. Resolution 7 on April 10, 2023, terminating the COVID-19 national public health emergency declared in the US on March 13, 2020.  H.J. Res 7 – Congressional Joint Resolution Ending US COVID-19 Health Emergency – Approved April 10, 2023
