Prosecutors in the case accuse Odero of links to cult leader Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, who himself is currently in custody and facing terrorism charges over the deaths of more than 100 people, many of them children.  The alleged crimes involve multiple burial sites and encouraging or allowing followers, including children, to starve to death.

My brothers and sisters, scripture is clear about false prophets or teachers and the devil’s deceptions.  This situation in Kenya serves as a strong reminder that the evil one’s efforts to steal, kill and destroy us all, and most especially the followers of Christ, are not going to simply go away until he is ultimately thrown into the pit.

Our discernment in spiritual matters is absolutely essential, not to instill fear, but to keep us from evil.  Taking time to regularly read the bible, fervently pray, worship, give of our resources, and to serve others strengthens our faith and enables us to withstand and recognize the lies of the devil.  And, we will be much more effective in reaching the lost and sharing the Jesus!

Scripture to consider:

2 Peter 2:1 (NKJV)
“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.”

1 John 4:1 (NKJV)
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Revelation 20:10 (NKJV)
“The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are.  And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

Praise Jesus forevermore!
