- Churches are leaving the United Methodist Church following disagreements over theology and church policy.
- The Holston Conference, the regional authority for UMC churches in East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia, held a special session Saturday. Delegates voted to ratify 264 disaffiliations.
- Many of the disaffiliated churches are joining more conservative breakaway denominations.
