Why do we oppose HB7 so strongly?
HB7 is the most radical abortion bill we’ve ever seen. But it goes far beyond creating unfettered access to abortion services across our state; it includes unfettered access to transgender surgeries and hormone blockers and puts NO AGE restriction to this unfettered access. We are talking now about our kids, our kindergarteners, our first graders… having access to change their gender and Mom and Dad aren’t involved.
HB7’s Abortion Component:
We cherish life because life is a precious gift from God. We do not want to see the radical abortion industry have unfettered access to our women and our children across New Mexico. We do want to protect women from the physical, emotional and psychological trauma caused by abortion. Communities in our state have already made efforts to protect women and children from the abortion industry through their ordinance of Sanctuaries for the Unborn. This bill will reverse these ordinances and penalize any public body who tries to deny, restrict, or interfere with access to abortions.
HB7’s Transgender Component:
We believe that God makes no mistakes when creating each human being, and that he created man and woman on purpose. This bill depicts transgender surgeries and transitioning tools as “life-saving” healthcare, creates unfettered access to these services, and penalizes any public body who denies, restricts, or interferes with access to it. The worst part of this component is that no age limit is defined. Our children are now in the hands of the schools to determine if treatment (counseling, hormone blockers, or even surgeries) should be introduced. We need to protect our children!
HB7’s Parents’ Rights Component:
We believe that children are a heritage from the Lord and are therefore a beautiful gift of which we’ve been entrusted to raise and nurture. HB7 takes away a parent’s right to do that when it comes to these services. A school teacher can now make decisions of care for our children without the parent’s knowledge or input. A school nurse can decide that because a child says he really wants to be a fish, that must mean that there is really a gender issue going on and direct that child to a school counselor to begin talking about how to change his pronouns; without informing the parents! Parents’ rights are God-given. This bill seeks to deny, restrict, and interfere with a parent’s right to make decisions with and for their children.
