Despite failing to replace Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and losing Yvette Herrell’s US Congressional seat during the recent midterm election, the Republican Party of New Mexico (“RPNM”) has reelected Chairman Steve Pearce to continue in a third term, meaning he will retain leadership through the 2024 election cycle.

Sadly, the recent November 2022 midterm election seems to show that New Mexico’s crime, homelessness, economic distress, education and employment problems, as well as its unrestricted abortion policies and complete one-party domination of all things judicial and political, is acceptable to most New Mexicans.  So, I guess it comes as no surprise that the GOP’s retaining of Steve Pearce as the RPNM Chairman also makes sense.

It’s hard to daily read all the media reports about the troubles here in New Mexico, where we’ve prioritized our pot smoking and abortions, become desensitized to murder, and demonized our oil & gas industries and patriotic Americans.  Why do we acknowledge problems and then double down on them in the voting booth?

It’s almost as though the GOP relishes being the underdog and having something to complain about.  Even the GOP’s gubernatorial candidate, Mark Ronchetti, supported roughly 95% of all abortions (based on the 15-week standard).  And, it didn’t escape notice that nearly all of the judges on the midterm ballot ran unopposed.  Have conservatives simply thrown in the “white towel” or are things so one-sided that conservative candidates can’t even legally make the ballots?

Reasonable persons might disagree, but President Reagan succeeded, as his legacy testifies, because he didn’t mitigate or apologize for the conservative positions for which he advocated.  There is a lesson in there somewhere – a lesson that the Democratic Party knows and executes exceedingly well, and has for many years.

It seems that the old adage “the more things change the more they stay the same” holds true.  This writer has never been more convinced that his decision to become an Independent voter many years ago was correct.

Interestingly, AP News recently reported that California Governor Gavin Newsom (who not that long ago was in disfavor and jeopardy of recall by California voters) campaigned for Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s reelection prior to the midterm election.  As we know, Governor Lujan Grisham soundly defeated GOP candidate Mark Ronchetti.  It’s striking that many New Mexicans seem to embrace the leadership perspective and political goals of Governor Newsom.  The AP News article may be read HERE.

All that said, the Answer was, is and shall always be, Jesus!  Amen!  The sooner we again recognize this in our civil governments, the better off everyone will be (even the non-believers).  God’s love never fails and is exceedingly powerful!  If there was ever a time to pray for the wisdom and boldness of not only our elected officials, but for all New Mexico residents and voters, the time is NOW!

As a reminder:

Isaiah 9:6 [NKJV]
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Editors Note From Pastor Dewey Moede: Just think, the NM GOP candidate for governor Mark Ronchetti, lost to the worst governor I have ever seen. Should be a wake up call to the GOP! There are more than a few Republicans still fighting for God’s babies like Ethel Maharg and Larry Marker: More Here
Pulitzer Prize winning historian Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., wrote in “Folly’s Antidote” (New York Times, January 1, 2007):
“History is to the nation as memory is to the individual.
As persons deprived of memory become disoriented and lost, not knowing where they have been and where they are going, so a nation denied a conception of the past will be disabled in dealing with its present and its future.”
Harvard Professor George Santayana wrote in Reason in Common Sense (Vol. I of The Life of Reason, 1905):
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
