I asked my Dear Sister in Christ, Ethel Maharg to write an Independence Day message. Sister Ethel is dedicated to serving our LORD and His babies, she is one of my heroes of faith! Ethel is the Director of New Mexico Right to Life. We need more Ethel’s in New Mexico and in America! I have said it many times, Ethel is so very dedicated to save God’s babies!

Independence Day

 

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

 

We often quote from the preamble to the Constitution yet do we really understand what it means? I decided to break it down. We hold means it is in our hands. We hold truths that need no explanation as they are self-evident meaning they should be obvious.

 

All men are created equal. We were created by Almighty God. We did not evolve from another species. We were as Psalm 139 says, We were knit in our mother’s womb. We are not a random clump of cells but the carefully fashioned handiwork of a loving Father.

 

Then this same creator endowed meaning He provided us all we would ever need with certain rights, not just any rights, but certain rights. They are unalienable; they are irrevocable. He gave them to us for us to keep. We never have to worry that He would ask us to return them.

 

The first of these is Life, the most important of all, because without life the remainder of the rights are irrelevant. Our Father tells us that He gives us not only life, but life abundantly. John 10:10.  We could then have Liberty or freedom and could pursuit Happiness. God intended us to have full lives with purpose that bring Him glory.

 

It is interesting to note in John 10:10 that Jesus said prior to abundant life that the thief comes but to steal, kill and destroy. This to me implies that we have a choice and unfortunately we too often choose to side with the thief. We allow, sometimes promote the killing of the innocent ironically in the name of freedom not understanding that this choice places us in bondage to the thief. When innocent blood is spilled our ground is cursed. Read Genesis 4:10-12 The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”

 

Today as we celebrate our nation’s Independence we need to bear in mind what makes us free. Honoring God and His Word, protecting the most innocent from bloodshed. We cannot expect to continue to destroy His image through killing children in order to pursuit our freedom and happiness and expect His blessings. We need to get back to God and the Biblical principles that made this a great nation if we expect to remain a free nation.
