UK intelligence officials say most of Russia’s forces are “largely stalled” but Moscow is continuing its scorched-earth attacks on several Ukrainian cities. Ukraine’s army says it forced Russian troops out of a strategically important suburb in Kyiv following a fierce battle. Meanwhile, civilians describe making daring escapes through street-to-street gun fights in Mariupol. Here’s what you need to know.

Rescuers have found no survivors in the wreckage of a passenger plane carrying 132 people that slammed into a wooded mountainside in China on Monday. The incident is China’s worst air disaster in more than a decade.
