Of course, the number is not up to date, but I give it as a representative of the many who have given their lives for the perceived good of America.  I say “perceived” because at the least the Vietnam War proved that there are often political agendas the regular American Patriot is not privy to, but they are patriots, after all, and so they give their all, literally.  For their heart toward the land that they loved, we, who too are patriots, honor them this Memorial Day weekend.

“Though an army besieges me, my heart will not fear; though war breaks out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.” (Psalm 27:3-4)

— Our Father, nobody, deep down, wants to die, but we have had many brave men and women, many of which were just barely adults by most standards, who bravely, yet nervously, placed their lives in great risk for the sake of others in the land they loved.   We are so very grateful, and yet, we can never be grateful enough for their sacrifices made for America; for us, for me.

LORD, I pray that no American of any age ever forget our history of sacrifice for the freedoms we have enjoyed up to this day.   May their sacrifices never be forgotten, nor the pain of their families.  We know that freedom comes at a high cost in a fallen world as this, and we pray that we will soon pursue peace within our once grand nation.   Return us to You, O LORD, while we sorrow in our remembrance of the fallen.  Move us toward an agreeable way of life as we honor those who were willing to give up their lives that we may celebrate their holiday in the realm of freedom.   God help America.  God bless America.  America, bless God once more!   We pray in the Holy Name of Your Son, Jesus.   Amen.
