Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.” “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, He is there!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand. Jesus is warning that we should not seek out signs and wonders. In fact, what is implied here is that signs and wonders are for the unbeliever and not the Believer. Why? Because as Believers we should already know Who He is. We should know how He Works in our lives. We shouldn’t have to look for confirmation of this.
I’m not saying that we don’t go to Him in Prayer to seek His Will for us. In fact, when it comes to doing ministry, we should look for confirmation. What I’m referring to is that people shouldn’t be looking for signs and wonders to bring them closer to Him. We should not have a Relationship based on these things. That makes it an experiential relationship rather than a Faith Relationship.
I was reminded of this Sunday when Ted and I went to go visit Mario. After we had lunch with Randall and his wife, who works at the prison, we asked for directions. They were simple, just go straight, down the main road about 5 miles, and you’ll see the sign. We missed it and ended up in Texas, which was about another 5 miles. When we came back, we saw the sign.
All I could think about was, “Here’s your sign” I started thinking about how people get caught up in “looking for signs” from God. We need to be careful because sometimes “signs” will take us off course.
Let’s walk in Faith and by His Lead.
