Did you know Moses had a hard time setting boundaries for himself and would take on more than what was necessary? Did you know Moses received advice? (Yes, the same Moses who led the Israelites out of slavery). In Exodus 18:13-27 we see an example of Moses heeding to the advice his father-in-law. You see, Moses would sit day in/day out waiting for people to come with their disputes so he could help them by informing them of God’s decrees! He would then instruct them in what to do.
But, his father-in-law asked him why he was overdoing himself? He told him that even though he was a representative of God that he should NOT take so much on because he was going to wear himself out and that the burden was too much to handle by himself! Moses father-in-law was wise in saying this! I’ve been there where I tried doing everything myself. Thinking no one else would do the job right and I didn’t want to bother anyone! I wanted people to see that I was capable of doing everything God set before me!
So, As Moses takes the advice from his father-in-law and does exactly what he said like appointing capable men as leaders and allowing those capable men to handle the small disputes (they still took the big cases to Moses). He was instructed that he would then be able to endure the pressures and that peace would rule in that area of his life. And I’m sure it did! Trying to do everything yourself just brings frustration and tiredness.
So, this is what the bible says about advice:
Proverbs 12:15 “Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.”
Let God speak to you today and allow yourself to come up out of that burden you’ve placed upon yourself! There are others who God wants to use so to help you! There is a greater mission in what you are trying to accomplish and having such a great burden of doing every thing yourself is not going to help. Let go of pride and a set mind. And just as Moses father in law said “if God is telling you to do this, do it!” But always remember to search your heart in every matter! God bless you in your decisions and may God burn in your heart and may you take heed and follow this example of Moses if you feel this word is for you! Good bless!
