Your Voice

Acts 22:14 Then he told me, “The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and hear Him speak.”

One day as I was thinking on the Lord, His voice, truth and our relationship, I said to Him:

“Holy Father, immerse me in the truth, the truth Your voice speaks. May I always hear You, Daddy. Even in the night hour, my Abba, teach me Your truths.”

To me, the most devastating thing that could happen to me would be the inability to hear His voice. I would perish with the longing to hear Him.

I sketched the picture above for a bible study homework assignment. It’s Jesus and me…face to face, breath to breath, and heartbeat to heartbeat. It portrays my relationship with Him, and some of the things He has spoken to me.

Isaiah 26:9 At night my soul longs for Thee.

Psalm 63:6 I lie awake thinking of You, meditating on You through the night.

When we are intimate with another, it is a two way conversation. Jesus heard the Father and He said, “Father, I know You always hear Me.”

How do you know you are hearing Him? In John 10:3,4 and 27 Jesus said that His sheep recognize His voice and He said, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”

John 17:7-8 “Now they have come to know that everything Thou hast given Me is from Thee; for the words which Thou gavest Me I have given to them; and they received them, and truly understood that I came forth from Thee, and they believed that Thou didst send me.”

In John 17, Jesus talks of love, oneness, and revealing. When you know someone, you recognize their voice.

You hear His voice! I know this because He said you would. If you are unsure, ask Him to help you hear Him. Yes, we hear His voice through others that know Him, the written Word, etc, but I am specifically addressing hearing His voice in your heart. Knowing His voice as He teaches, encourages, admonishes, reassures, heals, and loves you .

1 Kings 19:11-12 Then He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

Psalm 95:7 We are the people He watches over, the flock under His care. If only you would listen to His voice today!

Now understand that if what you hear is contrary to God’s nature, then it isn’t Him. He won’t tell you to kill someone or hate someone, etc. He is love and He speaks with love.

Abba, help those who are unsure if they are hearing Your voice to KNOW they are hearing You. Teach us even in the night hour, Abba. May we always hear You and express Your words and Your love to those around us. Even in those times You are silent, help our hearts to rest, knowing You are working things out. We love You. Thank You for Your love and for taking time to speak with us. Amen.

Dawn Bridges
Dawn's heart is to encourage the Body so that all would come to see the Christ-life as all-living, life-giving truth, that we would all walk in the Holy Spirit to such fullness that anyone we come in contact with comes in contact with the living God. (Ephesians 4:23-24) She has always liked writing and in March 2007, the Lord gave her 1 Peter 4:10-11 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. Dawn is very blessed to be married to her best friend, Ron, who continually nourishes her with the washing of the Word. They currently live in Oklahoma, and have two married sons, an adult daughter, six granddaughters and two grandsons.
