A Lost Cause

Our country is being threatened with a nuclear attack and everyone is focused on football. How ridiculous does this sound? It has become ridiculous….and I’m sure the one who started it is laughing along with many others who believe America is no longer the land of opportunity and promise that it claims to be. The land of the free and the home of the brave is becoming the land of protest.
Protesting is fine, but there are places and times for it….and on the football field is NOT the place and during our national anthem is not the time! It breaks my heart to see this happening, especially at a time when unity is most important and direly needed. Our President has voiced his anger and objections and maybe his words were not the most well-chosen ones, but who can blame him for being upset? We’re ALL upset. Men, (and I use the word loosely), who supposedly take pride in their ability to play football are refusing to show respect for our country and it’s flag. As this thing grows, let’s face it: The cause for which the first knee was taken has been totally lost in the craziness.
These protests are now nothing but another way to show opposition and disrespect to the person we elected to be our President. Never in history have Americans ever treated an elected President with such out-right hatred. You would think many of them were not even raised in the United States. People treat their dogs better than our President is treated. And you can bet on one thing, other countries are watching and waiting for us to fall.
To me, football and every other sport plus the Olympic games are given way too much attention. We were not put here to play games and party. Life is serious business and games are for kids. Football to me is as important as a pebble at the bottom of the ocean….in other words, I could not care less about who wins, who plays, or if it was never played again. But I do care about my God,my country, my flag and my President. Anyone who disrespects either of them needs to be schooled in ethics.
Blacks are feeling oppressed because a few of them have gotten killed by police officers in their line of duty. Many more were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, but that was also in their line of duty. Exactly what is everyone’s LINE OF DUTY? Where do we draw a line and what should be done to those who cross it??? Should they all be shot? Should we riot in the streets because we feel someone we cared about has been treated unfairly? Or should we DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
Our President, Donald Trump, whom nobody really hated until he became President, came into the office with great ideas and plans to make many changes, to make life better for ALL Americans….and the blacks were included in these plans. But, because of so much opposition and hurt feelings, the plans he has must be put off. He can’t do anything when his every effort is challenged on every front. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE??? Where are all the ones who CAN do something to help? Where are all the “heroes” ? These football players I’m sure all had other players they looked up to, that inspired them to play football in the first place. Where are they? Sitting….kneeling…. on a football field because the President disrespected them by calling them out for being bad Americans.
When will this end? What must be done to put an end to it? Maybe if the President put together a special group of people to look into the problem of police brutality? If he tried to talk to the black communities? Maybe better housing and living conditions were made available for those who are living in the inner cities? ALL these are things he has on his agenda….and all are being blocked by Democrats and liberals who want nothing to change.
The red tape of government has tied the hands of every person who wants things to get better. Our President saw this, and stepped up to work for us, but he can’t do it by himself. Let’s all get off our bleachers of laziness, stop complaining and DO something. These football players can visit the cities they came from, the schools they graduated from and use the money they played for to help make life better for some. All these movie stars who find it so cute to bash our President and make fun of him could use their money and influence to help instead of hurt our country.
Will it take something even worse than 9/11….perhaps a hydrogen bomb, to get our attention off of football and protesting long enough to do something? The word united means: together. We have to be like a family and you know what they say: The family that prays together, stays together. Well, the same is true of a country. God is in the same boat with Donald Trump. He is disrespected, ignored and made fun of, but there is one big difference….He is not accountable to anyone. We belong to Him and He will act in any way He sees fit in order to get our attention. His patience has got to be stretched to the limits, or really close to it, by now. Seeing the people He loves act so disrespectfully, as if they didn’t know better.
We need to search our hearts and decide. Is what we’re protesting really worth giving up our lives for? That bomb is coming, and there may be no survivors…. Then it will truly become a lost cause.

My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls. I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grandchildren grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
