We have a problem in our church…. someone needs to leave. Maybe you have the same situation in your church. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure you do! The sad thing is, everyone seems to know about it. Nearly every week I hear more about this someone. Sometimes it is through the grape vine. Sometimes it is in some not-so-quiet-whispers. There are times that it can seem overwhelming.
Maybe the best course of action is to just bring it to light.
Maybe you can identify with this issue in your church and this post can assist in a solution.
Of the many grievances, we know for sure that:
• SOMEONE needs to pray with that new family
• SOMEONE should help in the nursery
• SOMEONE ought to do something about getting new people in the church.
• SOMEONE needs to get those spider webs wiped down
• SOMEONE should make coffee
• SOMEONE ought to get out and meet the needs of the community
• SOMEONE needs to pick up that scrap of paper on the floor
• SOMEONE should ___________________
Well, you can fill in the blank.
There are so many issues with SOMEONE . The problem with SOMEONE is that, in fact, it is EVERYONE.
It is me.
It is you.
It is we.
The church body is a family that only works as a family when we all work together. I am so thankful for the “moms” of our church family…those who see the things only moms notice. They are the first to come along and pick up what SOMEONE missed. Without them, we would be a mess! They are our pillars, our rocks, our “someone special”. The truth is, the men and women that play this role keep a lot of our programs, functions and services functioning smoothly in each of our churches.
So, how do we get rid of SOMEONE and find more “someone specials”?
It starts with me.
It starts with you.
When we see that SOMEONE has a task to do, we need to look at this as an opportunity to play a vital role within our family. We all are part of the body of Christ. The question is, are we satisfied just being SOMEONE or are we “someone special”?
