NEW GUV POLL: PEARCE VS. LUJAN GRISHAM

We’ve just been given a new poll conducted for the ’18 gubernatorial race featuring a hypothetical match-up between GOP Rep. Steve Pearce and ABQ Dem Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham. It shows Grisham beating Pearce 47% to 43% with 10% undecided. Grisham has already announced she is giving up her congressional seat to run for the Dem nomination for governor. Pearce is considering doing the same and seeking the GOP Guv nod.

The poll was conducted by the Tarrance Group, a respected polling firm that polls for GOP candidates and has been around for decades. Tarrance says “the findings are based on telephone interviews with 605 registered “likely” New Mexico voters. Responses were gathered May 20-23, 2017 and the margin of error associated with a sample of this type is + 4.1%.

We have not determined who paid for the poll, probably a GOP group because if Pearce paid for the survey it would likely trigger candidate filing requirements and he is not going there right now.

And how do New Mexicans feel about their state right now? No surprise there. They are very unhappy. The poll says: “The vast majority of New Mexico voters are not happy with the direction in which the state is headed. Only 15% say things are going in the right direction, while fully 73% of New Mexico voters say things are going down the wrong track. This is not a lightly held opinion, as a 54% majority feel strongly that things are “wrong track.”

With numbers like that, the state would seem to be looking for a change from the Republicans Will Pearce give up his seat and fight the odds? We’ll soon find out. The full poll is here: https://www.scribd.com/…/3501876…/May-2017-New-Mexico-Survey
