Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led the nation in Yom Ha’Shoah (Holocaust Memorial Day) events at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem on Sunday evening. During his remarks, he said among other things that although widespread anti-Semitism and apathy about war crimes and genocidal governments is still a fact of life 72 years after the Holocaust, Jewish weakness is not.

Iran Rattles Sabre and Blames US for Tensions

Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement over the weekend saying, among other things, that U.S. President Donald Trump is trying to create an excuse for violating the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal but the clerical regime in Teheran is determined not to let that happen. Also over the weekend, an Iranian aerospace company presented what it called a domestically produced stealth-capable fighter aircraft, but Western experts were quick to point out the structural and mechanical flaws evident in the airframe of the plane, dismissing it as a public relations gimmick for internal Iranian consumption.

Reports Indicate Israeli Airstrike in Syria

Reports out of Syria indicate that an Israeli strike on a training camp for a militia aligned with the regime of President Bashar Assad in the Syrian zone of the Golan Heights Sunday evening killed three fighters and wounded two others. The IDF did not comment on the reports, which came two days after it announced that it had carried out retaliatory strikes for mortar shells which landed in Israeli territory.

Israeli Athlete Wins Bronze Medal

Israeli gymnast Alex Shatilov collected a bronze medal, his seventh career medal, at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Saturday evening. Minister of Culture and Sport Miri Regev called Shatilov, telling him “You brought great pride to Israeli sport and to the State of Israel once more.”

Stabbing Attack in Tel Aviv Leaves Four Wounded

A terrorist stabbing attack occurred in the lobby of the Leonardo Beach Hotel in Tel Aviv hotel Sunday afternoon, resulting in four Israelis wounded and the terrorist, an 18 year old Palestinian man from Nablus, arrested. A police spokesperson said the incident was under investigation and a gag order had been placed on it.

Hunger Strike by Palestinian Prisoners Fizzling Out

The “hunger strike” by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, launched with much fanfare and controversy last week, has already begun to fizzle out, with dozens of prisoners announcing they were ending their fast over the weekend. Fatah, the political faction which dominates the Palestinian Authority, has called for a general strike on Thursday and a “Day of Rage” on Friday to show solidarity with the prisoners, but Israeli officials monitoring the situation dismissed this saying that ordinary Palestinians have shown little enthusiasm for political theatrics.
