PEARCE STANDS WITH NM LEGISLATORS TO DEMAND RESPECT FOR LIFE

Washington, DC (February 8, 2017) Congressman Steve Pearce today joined New Mexico State Legislators and pro-life advocates for a Press Conference on the criminal referrals sent to New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas from the U.S. House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, imploring the state and University leaders to address the blatant violations uncovered in the Panel’s investigation. Rep. Pearce released the following statement following the event:

“I stand today with elected New Mexico officials to demand action from the Attorney General Hector Balderas. The findings by the Select Panel on Infant Lives raised serious concerns of ethical and legal violations by the University of New Mexico (UNM) and the Southwestern Women’s Options (SWWO) all at the taxpayers’ expense. Now, we have reached a critical point where UNM and the New Mexico Attorney General must decide if their negligence of laws and human life will be met with just punishment,” stated Rep. Pearce.

Rep. Pearce continued to state, “I applaud the hard work of the Select Panel on Infant Lives and thank the New Mexico State Legislators who have tirelessly fought for the protection of born alive infants and the safety of mothers in New Mexico.”

Background

The Select Panel on Infant Lives sent their first criminal referral to the New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas in June of 2016. After finding more evidence of violations in the procedures of fetal tissue procurement by the University of New Mexico and Southwestern Women’s Options, the Panel sent a second criminal referral in December 2016.
