President Trump nominates federal appeals court judge Neil Gorsuch to fill Supreme Court vacancy
Trump’s selection of the widely respected conservative justice caps days of speculation over his choice to fill the seat of Justice Antonin Scalia, who died suddenly last February. Gorsuch, 49, was appointed to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals by President George W. Bush in 2006. Democrats still seething over Senate Republicans’ denial of a hearing for President Obama’s nominee, Judge Merrick Garland, are expected to contest Gorsuch’s nomination.
