President Trump Gets To Work

What an incredible inaugural week! It was amazing to see the excitement of hundreds of thousands of people who came to Washington to celebrate the peaceful transfer of power. Not to belabor the obvious, but President Trump has inherited a healthcare system in crisis, a world in chaos and a struggling economy, not to mention a mountain of debt.

As we reported, the left did its best to ruin the inauguration. There was sporadic violence throughout Washington. At least six police officers were injured and more than 200 people were arrested. Most of those detained are facing charges of felony rioting, a serious offense that can result in 10 years in jail. I hope the new Justice Department prosecutes these extremists to the fullest extent of the law.

More Fake News

The media’s war against the Trump/Pence Administration took a nasty turn over the weekend. Multiple commentators suggested that Melania Trump sat stone faced during Saturday morning’s prayer service at the National Cathedral. Carol and I were there. There were many emotional moments during the service.

One of the most moving was when Marlana VanHoose sang “How Great Thou Art.” VanHoose is blind and has cerebral palsy. But she was gifted with a beautiful voice. During this song, First Lady Melania Trump cried. When VanHoose finished singing, Mrs. Trump led the congregation in a standing ovation.

Later that day, President Trump invited reporters into the Oval Office to witness the swearing in of several top aides. Within minutes, a reporter from Time tweeted that Trump had removed a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. That was a lie. The King bust is still there.

The reporter later claimed someone was standing in front of it, and it was just an honest mistake. Well, if he didn’t see it why didn’t he ask White House aides whether it had been moved? We know why. The reporter thought he had his narrative — that Trump is a bigot, and he ran with it.

When the reporter was called on his “mistake,” he issued multiple apologies. But the original claim had gone viral by that point.

By the way, President Trump returned the Churchill bust to the Oval Office.

The Crowd Debate

The media gleefully covered the anti-Trump protests that took place this weekend. These same journalists did their best to ignore the huge crowds that Donald Trump and Mike Pence attracted during the presidential campaign.

Hillary Clinton won 91% of the vote in Washington, D.C., 79% in New York City, 85% in Baltimore and 82% in Philadelphia. The point being that there is a ready pool of left-wing demonstrators who barely have to leave their homes to join a protest in the nation’s capital.

In contrast, the Trump/Pence vote was a Middle America vote both geographically and politically. Some people attending the inauguration held fundraisers to come to Washington. For many, it will likely be the only time they come to Washington with their families.

It should also be noted that Middle America left Washington just as they found it. The left trashed it. They smashed windows and burned garbage in the streets.

Several celebrities made headlines for what should be career-ending offensive comments. Madonna, whose career is pretty much over, told the crowd, “I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.” Actress Ashley Judd recited a poem with obscene comments about the president and his daughter that I won’t repeat.

Here’s the important thing to remember: The division we saw last year and last weekend isn’t being caused by conservatives. That’s what the media want you to believe.

Instead, the division and rancor that so many Americans rightly disdain is a product of the increasingly intolerant left, which I wrote about in my latest opinion piece at The Daily Caller.

Defending Life

Yesterday marked the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing most abortions in America. Since that ruling 44 years ago, more than 58 million innocent lives have been sacrificed in the name choice and privacy.

Our nation was founded on the idea that each one of us was created by God with the “unalienable” right to life. Fifty-eight million deaths is a betrayal of our founding principles just as slavery violated those principles.

Roe v. Wade is based on the same misguided philosophy as Dred Scott — that some humans are not “people” with rights we are obligated to respect. Anyone who points out the flaw in the left’s logic is accused of misogyny, of wanting to “turn back the clock.”

But it is the left that wants to turn back the clock. Modern technology allows us to see into the womb, making it virtually impossible to deny the humanity of the unborn child. The science of conception is settled! Those who deny the reality of life are the true deniers of science.

This Friday, there will be another march in Washington — the March for Life. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will gather in our nation’s capital to pray for the end of abortion.

The contrast with the Women’s March will be striking. There will be no profanity from the speakers. There will be no vandalism. There won’t be mountains of garbage left behind. And, because of the media’s liberal bias, you won’t hear much, if anything, about it on the nightly news.

Nevertheless, I am confident that the day is coming when all of our children will be welcomed into society and protected by the law. I am pleased to report that President Trump today signed an executive order reinstating President Ronald Reagan’s “Mexico City policy,” banning federal funding to organizations that perform and promote abortions overseas.

And in the days ahead, President Trump will make a far more important decision that will impact the sanctity of life when he selects a Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice Antonin Scalia. Already liberal senators, emboldened by the weekend protests, are threatening to block a conservative nominee.

With your continued support, my friends, I promise to keep fighting for the right to life so long as God gives me breath!
