New Mewxico Rep. Monica Youngblood Statement on Committee Passage of Her Legislation to Reinstate Death Penalty

Upon the House Appropriation and Finance Committee’s passage of House Bill 7, legislation to reinstate the option for the death penalty option for the death penalty for the murder of children, police and correctional officers, the bill’s sponsor Representative Monica Youngblood (R-Albuquerque) issued the following statement:

“The death penalty is a fitting punishment for the monsters that murder innocent children. Prosecutors should have it as an option while they seek the justice those children deserve.”

Ten-year old Victoria Martens resided in Youngblood’s district before she was horrifically raped, murdered and mutilated.

According to a poll released today by the Albuquerque Journal, 65 percent of New Mexicans favor reinstating the death penalty, including majorities of Democrats, Republicans and independents.

Youngblood’s legislation now goes to the House floor for a vote.
