Governor Susana Martinez Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor and Mourning of U.S. Army National Guard Sergeant First Class Matthew McClintock

Santa Fe, NM — Today, Governor Susana Martinez issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, January 29, 2016, in honor and mourning of Army National Guard Sergeant First Class Matthew McClintock. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, January 31, in Albuquerque.

“Sergeant First Class McClintock’s service and sacrifice exemplify the solemn legacy of New Mexicans who answered the call to serve in our Armed Forces,” said Governor Susana Martinez. “Our hearts go out to his family, and I ask New Mexicans to join me in flying flags at half-staff in his memory.”

EXECUTIVE ORDER 2016-01

FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF IN HONOR AND MOURNING OF ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SERGEANT FIRST CLASS MATTHEW MCCLINTOCK

     WHEREAS, Washington Army National Guard Sergeant First Class Matthew McClintock died on January 5, 2016, in Marjah District, Afghanistan, while serving in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel; and

     WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class McClintock was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), of Buckley, Washington; and

     WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class McClintock was a native New Mexican who graduated from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque; and

     WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class McClintock joined the Washington National Guard in 2014 after several years as an active duty soldier, and deployed to Afghanistan with the Washington National Guard in July 2015; and

     WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class McClintock is survived by his wife, Alexandra, and their son, Declan;

     NOW, THEREFORE, I, Susana Martinez, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby order that all flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, January 29, 2016, in honor and mourning of Sergeant First Class McClintock’s service and sacrifice. The thoughts and prayers of the people of New Mexico go out to Sergeant First Class McClintock’s family, along with our heartfelt gratitude for his service.
