March For Life

The March For Life will take place this Friday, January 22nd, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The annual march memorializes the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision 43 years ago in Roe v. Wade forcing every state in the union to permit the destruction of innocent unborn children.

After more than four decades of marching year after year in the bitter cold and snow, some might ask, “Nothing is changing. Why keep doing it?”

Many Americans said the same thing about slavery after the Supreme Court’s horrific Dred Scott decision. Thankfully, men and women of faith in 1800s persevered and slavery was abolished.

When it comes to attitudes about abortion today, hearts and minds are changing. A recent poll by the Marist Institute for Public Opinion finds that Americans overwhelmingly reject the left’s extreme abortion-on-demand agenda. Here are some key findings of the survey:

  • 81% of Americans support some restrictions on abortion. Only 12% say a woman should be able to abort her child at any time during her pregnancy.
  • 60% of Americans believe abortion is morally wrong.
  • 68% of Americans, including 69% of women, oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions.
  • 61%, support banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy except to save the life of the mother. My friends, we are winning the debate!

We are just one or two Supreme Court appointments away from restoring some legal protections for children in the womb. Who wins the presidency this November is literally a life and death decision for millions of unborn babies.

    Iowa Endorsements

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin endorsed Donald Trump yesterday in Iowa, leaving a lot of conservative leaders scratching their heads. The race in Iowa is neck-and-neck, and many Iowa Republicans are trying to decide between Trump and Ted Cruz.

Both Palin and Cruz are closely identified with the Tea Party movement. Palin has a long relationship with Cruz, who is much closer to her on values issues than Trump. Nevertheless, Cruz was magnanimous about the endorsement, saying that he and Palin will always be great friends.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad also weighed in yesterday with an “Anybody but Cruz” endorsement. The governor, citing the senator’s support from the oil and natural gas industry, said that he wanted to see Cruz defeated in Iowa.

The race in Iowa is extremely close, and it remains to be seen whether these developments will swing voters one way or the other.

One place where the race no longer seems close is the Democrat primary in New Hampshire. A WMUR/CNN released late yesterday finds Bernie Sanders surging to a whopping 27-point lead over Hillary Clinton. The race has swung 17 points in the past month, giving Sanders a 60% to 33% lead.

    Kasich’s Left Turn?

Speaking of New Hampshire, a new GOP primary poll finds Ohio Governor John Kasich moving into second place in the Granite State. How is Kasich standing out in New Hampshire?

According to the Wall Street Journal, he is running an “unorthodox campaign” and embracing many liberal positions, “backing such issues as the Iran nuclear deal and campaign-finance reform.”

In short, Kasich is running to the left, hoping to capitalize on support from independents and Democrats. He is not being coy about this. Kasich’s New Hampshire strategist told theJournal that they hope to get “at least one-third of his primary votes” from independents.

And it may be working. One college administrator interviewed for the story said she voted twice for Obama, but is torn this time between Bernie Sanders and . . . John Kasich.

    The Evil Of Radical Islam

While the political left in America hyperventilates over the imagined intolerance of Christians who believe in normal marriage or that unborn baby girls have a fundamental right to life, it largely ignores the rampaging evil of radical Islam around the world. Today brought more news that should galvanize Western Civilization to defend Judeo-Christian culture.

  • The Taliban attacked a university today in northwest Pakistan, killing at least 19 people. This same Islamic supremacist group slaughtered more than 130 children during an attack on a school in 2014.
  • In Europe, a new report by Amnesty International (AI) finds that the sexual assaults committed by Muslim migrants against European women on New Year’s Eve were not isolated events. Rapes are taking place all along the refugees’ migratory path.AI interviewed dozens of women and children fleeing the Middle East, and many reported being victimized by the Muslim men traveling with them throughout the entire journey into and across Europe.

A spokesman said, “These women and their children have fled some of the world’s most dangerous areas and it is shameful that they are still at risk on European soil.” But these women and children are not at risk from Europeans.

What is truly shameful is that Europe’s left-wing politically correct culture prevents authorities from acknowledging the source of that risk — the mentality in traditional Islamic societies that treats women like property.

  • In the Middle East, the Islamic State’s genocide against the region’s ancient Christian community continues unabated. Satellite photos show that St. Elijah’s Monastery, the oldest Christian monastery in Iraq, has been pulverized into “a field of grey-white dust.”The monastery stood for more than 1,400 years. But like hundreds of other historic religious sites, it has been demolished by Islamic radicals.

Looking at photos of the devastation, Father Thabit Habib said, “Our Christian history in Mosul is being barbarically leveled. We see it as an attempt to expel us from Iraq, eliminating and finishing our existence in this land.”

Sadly, he is right. It is nothing short of genocide. But Obama claims his strategy to defeat these barbarians is working and we just need to be patient. Given the way things are going, I fear the Middle East may run out of Christians before Obama runs out of patience with the Islamic State.
