Governor Susana Martinez Appoints Brad Winter as New Mexico Secretary of State

Santa Fe, NM — Today, Governor Susana Martinez appointed Albuquerque City Councilor and long-time public schools administrator Brad Winter as New Mexico Secretary of State.

Winter is currently serving his fourth term as an Albuquerque City Councilor and was council president in 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2008. Most recently, Winter served as the interim superintendent of Albuquerque Public Schools after working for the school district for more than 20 years in various positions such as chief operations officer, executive director of facilities and operations, and director of capital master plans.

“Brad Winter has the integrity, skills, and temperament to step in as Secretary of State and serve New Mexicans with distinction,” said Governor Susana Martinez. “He’s a proven leader, routinely praised by Republicans and Democrats alike, and his experience as a long-time administrator who has managed large budgets, capital and information technology projects, and sizeable staffs will be key to overseeing a successful and well-run election next year.”

Winter will hold the position until January 1st, 2017 and will not simultaneously seek election as Secretary of State in the November 2016 election.

“I’m honored to have the Governor’s trust and confidence to serve as New Mexico’s Secretary of State,” said Winter. “These are unique circumstances, but I believe that we will be able to rise to the challenge and uphold New Mexico’s election laws, operate an efficient Secretary of State’s office, and oversee a professionally managed presidential-year election.”

Winter holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, and a Doctorate of Education from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Pastor Dewey Note: I am very disappointing in this selection, Winter is recycled, a recycled politician. He has failed  at APS and also he failed as a leader in the City of Albuquerque, to help lead Albuquerque out of it’s deep troubles.

Why does New Mexico recycle Politicians…..same people, same last place results. Why not a County Clerk from Catron County? Or from other Counties in this state or a Christian attorney? New blood, new life, not the same people, with the same last place results. It’s all about the money and connections. You want a Secretary of State who held a high position in the failed school District of APS? You want a Secretary of State who worked for the people of Albuquerque and…well you get the point, I hope.

When will this cycle end?
