I was blessed to be invited to Valley View Christian Church in Edgewood, New Mexico last night. We have so many friends at Valley View, so very thankful! What I like to say about Valley View and many other Churches is, “they get it” The Body of Christ at Valley View is always shining and serving God’s people. Last night Valley View held a “Hero Appreciation Dinner” with a full Thanksgiving meal!! Military, Police, Fire, EMT’s and their families were honored. I was blessed to make a new friend, 74 year old Joe Toledo, pictured below, who served in the Vietnam War, Air Force. Joe told me the story about the day, The Duke, John Wayne made a visit to his base in Vietnam as Wayne was making “The Green Berets” movie. Joe said the Duke really encouraged the troops. During Joe’s time in Vietnam actor Robert Mitchum also visited the base. Joe and his buddies would attend Church at a missionary camp near the base. Joe later heard all but one of the missionaries were killed when American troops left Vietnam, that still haunts Joe to this day. I asked Pastor Leonard Navarre of Valley View to give us a summary of last night: Over 75 volunteers from Valley View Christian Church, Edgewood, New Mexico showed our appreciation to our local Heroes and their families by providing a Thanksgiving Dinner Tuesday night.  Our local Heroes represented were:  New Mexico State Police, Albuquerque Police, Edgewood Police, Sante Fe County Sheriff, Bernalillo County Sheriff, Santa Fe Fire Fighters, Bernalillo Fire Fighters, Santa Fe EMS, plus Veterans and their families.  Well over 100 heroes and their families were served.  The youth of Valley View Christian Church also had prepared hand made “thank you” cards that were presented to each Hero. Thank you Pastor Leonard and all the folks at Valley View who shine the light of Jesus Christ so brightly! Jennifer Burns makes the best thanksgiving stuffing!!! LOL!!!! I close with this….Let us pray for and give thanks for all of our heroes everyday! Amen! Matthew 5:13-15 teaches us…..Salt and Light
13“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.14“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.…Hero 2015First responders 2
