“Capturing” Jerusalem

The left’s efforts to erase history are not limited to the United States. The U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted a resolution Tuesday slamming Israel for “illegal excavations” in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The resolution completely ignores any Jewish historical connection to Jerusalem, and refers to the Temple Mount area only as a “Muslim holy site of worship.” Of course, the Temple Mount is a holy place to Jews, who predated Muslim influence. The site is of great historic importance to Christians too.

For years there has been an effort by Islamists to claim that Jews have no historical roots in Jerusalem. If they succeed, they will not only erase Jewish history, but they will also turn the Bible into a book of lies instead of revealed Truth.

“Mainline” Christian denominations busy passing boycotts and divestment resolutions against Israel may want to reflect on who they are allied with. They are helping to destroy the history of the faith they claim allegiance to.

Trump Was Wrong And Right

Donald Trump’s remarks about illegal immigrants and crime clearly hit a nerve and may explain why he is enjoying a bump in the polls right now. The problem with what he said was that his torturous choice of words made it sound like most Hispanics are criminals. That is ludicrous and offensive. But his overall demand that America secure its border is absolutely right.

Now the country has been shocked by the horrible murder in the sanctuary city of San Francisco committed by an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times. That he was able to get back in the U.S. so many times proves just how porous our border is.

Not surprisingly, there’s no shortage of politicians running for cover. Others insist that we shouldn’t draw conclusions based on one incident. Unfortunately, it’s not just one incident.

According to an analysis of government data, there are nearly 350,000 convicted criminal immigrants running around the country.

Here’s more: According to data from the U.S. Sentencing Commission, illegal immigrants accounted for nearly 37% of all federal convictions in 2014, including “16.8 percent of drug trafficking cases, 20.0 percent of kidnapping/hostage taking, 74.1 percent of drug possession, 12.3 percent of money laundering, and 12.0 percent of murder convictions.” Yet illegal immigrants reportedly make up only 3.5% of the population.

Much has been made of the slogan “Black lives matter.” Indeed they should. But why wasn’t there more outrage about the brutal murder of Jamiel Shaw? Jamiel’s mother, Army Sgt. Anita Shaw, is angry and frustrated with current immigration policy and thinks more people should consider Donald Trump’s larger point.

Kudos To Gov. Fallin

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, like most Americans, was outraged by the state supreme court’s decision last week declaring a monument to the Ten Commandments to be unconstitutional. To her credit, she is refusing to blindly obey the court’s absurd dictate.

Fallin said yesterday, “Oklahoma is a state where we respect the rule of law. . . However, we are also a state with three co-equal branches of government.” And those branches of government are fighting back.

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt is seeking a rehearing of the Ten Commandments case, and state legislators are considering amendments to the Oklahoma Constitution.

Governor Fallin added that “If legislative efforts are successful, the people of Oklahoma will get to vote on the issue.” I have no doubt about the outcome of that vote. In the meantime, the monument stays put.

By the way, Governor Fallin isn’t the only one standing up to our rogue courts. County clerks across the country are resisting and resigning over the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage. In one Tennessee county, the entire staff of the clerk’s office resigned.

These public servants are being forced to choose between their faith and their professions. For them, the laws of nature and nature’s God are supreme.

We were told by the left that same-sex marriages wouldn’t harm anyone. But, sadly, as we have seen in the prosecutions of bakers, florists, photographers, fire chiefs and military chaplains, the new “right” to same-sex marriage is eroding the religious liberty rights of men and women of faith.
