Why Should God Heal Me?

THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE – WHY SHOULD GOD HEAL ME? Written by David Maddox
For those like me with a life threatening disease, cancer, or significant injury it is good to explore why we want to be healed. Is it merely so that we will feel well again – have our strength back – and pursue life to its full? As a Believer with cancer I feel very strongly that God’s Word has given us important guidance that provides us with the proper perspective. It is the story of Jesus’ healing of Peter’s mother-in-law. ScriptureDavid Maddox with wife records, “And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve Him” (Matthew 8:14-15). There it is – “she rose and began to serve Him”. The purpose of the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law was that she might be enabled to serve Him. That is my purpose in my prayer and why I want to be healed. We all will die someday – why not today? The answer has to be because there are things God has called me to that I have not yet been able to finish. So my prayer is that God enable and empower me to serve Him as He have called me. If our purpose goes beyond mere physical healing our focus will not be lost on ourselves and our discomfort – and we will have so much more to look forward to – and our prayer will be within the Father’s will if there remains things He has for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). If not – Jesus has prepared an eternal home for us where there will be no pain or sorrow (John 14:1-3) (Revelation 21:3-4).

About David Maddox – After a legal career in both Texas and Arizona that spanned over 40 years as a civil litigator, God called David to leave his law practice and work full time as Discipleship Director for Time to Revive.  That call is really the fruit of decades of prayer for revival and teaching God’s Word, writing discipleship materials and seeking to make disciples.  David married Janet Whitehead in 1976 and they minister together from their Phoenix home.  God has blessed them with four children and thus far seven grandchildren.
