Dear Friends,
We have been informed that the Late Term Abortion Ban and the Parental
Notification bills will be heard this Sunday, March 15, in the Senate Public
Affairs Committee.
This presents an opportunity for all of us to share with our Senators a strong pro-life message. Your contact with the Senators and attendance at this hearing will mark a crucial effort in ridding New Mexico of the stigma of late term abortion and
strengthening our families.
The time of the hearing has not been announced but could be mid-afternoon. Please check the New Mexico Alliance for Life’s Facebook page for updated information.
Please continue to pray for our legislators, especially for those on this committee and for the continued advancement of this legislation.

BE A VOICE FOR THE UNBORN:
SANTA FE SUNDAY AT THE CAPITOL TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR Late-Term Abortion Ban Act (HB390) and Parental Notification for Abortion Act (HB391)
|
Sunday could be our last chance to show Senators, New Mexicans do not support our state being the LATE-TERM ABORTION CAPITAL of the U.S. and a place where sex traffickers and statutory rapists can take minor girls for abortions without their parents’ knowledge. The abortion industry has tried to tell us “this is a private decision- government has no place.” However, New Mexico taxpayers are forced to subsidize abortions, in particular, LATE-TERM ABORTIONS at a cost of $8,000- $16,000 per termination.Whether the abortion industry likes it or not, government is already involved– forcing New Mexico taxpayers to fund costly, elective late-term abortions. As tax paying New Mexicans, we all have a say in the matter. Additionally government has a responsibility in protecting its citizens. Government has a responsibility to protect women from an unsafe, and unregulated late-term abortion industry, when the risk of death is 91 times greater than earlier abortions. The late- term abortion industry is not disclosing these risks to women and is not providing them with medical supervision during the week long procedure- when they leave the clinic each day throughout this highly dangerous process. Late term abortion in New Mexico is not safe. It is not rare. The state of New Mexico also has a responsibility to protect human life at the point of viability, to start regulating the health and safety risks to women, to enforce the Infant Born Alive Protection Act and join 47 other states protecting women, girls and unborn children from unsafe and unnecessary late-term abortion.
On Tuesday, ALL Senate Democrats, including those who call themselves “Pro-Life” voted against hearing House Bills 390 (Late Term Abortion Ban) and 391 (Parental Notification of Abortion) to a full Senate Vote. Instead the bills were sent to the Senate Public Affairs Committee to be heard THIS SUNDAY March 15, tentatively in the afternoon (We do not know the time yet but will update once that becomes available.) See TODAY’s Albuquerque Journal Editorial: Important Bills Deserve Full Senate Consideration.
THIS MEANS WE NEED EVERY PRO-LIFE NEW MEXICO IN SANTA FE SUNDAY TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT CALLING THE SENATORS BELOW. (see NM Alliance for Life FACT SHEET for Talking Points)
The Senate Public Affairs Committee is comprised of five Democrats and three Republicans — so we need two Democrats to VOTE YES to pass the bill out of committee and over to Senate Judiciary Committee where they will be heard again and then hopefully to the full Senate for passage.
Please continue to email and call the Senators below especially if you live in their districts. Let them know you are their constituent and will be watching how they vote. Also contact your NM State Senator (find here) and ask them to support HB 390 and HB 39. We cannot stress enough how important contacting these key members of the Senate Public AffairsCommittee to Vote YES on passing the bills from their committees to the full Senate for a vote. If you’ve already contacted the Senators, it doesn’t hurt to contact them again. And be sure to share with family and friends.
