Two police officers have been shot in Ferguson MO as protests were winding down shortly after midnight as continued unrest persists in the city and the Department of Justice charges the city with civil rights violations.
The shooting immediately follows the announcement of the resignation of the city’s police chief. He is the 6th city official to have stepped down since the rioting in November following Officer Darren Wilson having killed Michael Brown in self-defense.
Both officers are in critical condition as one officer was shot in the face and the other in the shoulder. It appears the shots came from a house directly across the street from the city police headquarters in downtown Ferguson.
It appears the shooter has not yet been apprehended.
