Arab League Declares Unified Military Effort in Yemen

Map of Yemen (Illustrative)A meeting of the Arab League in Egypt on Thursday concluded with a statement endorsing a unified military effort in the intensifying Yemeni civil war, even as conflicts continued to rage in Syria, Iraq, Libya and elsewhere. Meanwhile, Yemen’s ousted president Hadi arrived in Riyadh late Thursday after fleeing his embattled country and plans on joining the Arab League summit in Egypt on Saturday. The Saudi-led air offensive has been dubbed “Operation Storm of Resolve” and includes aircraft from several Arab countries, many of which are also continuing their participation in the US-led air campaign against the Islamic State (IS) terror militia in Syria and Iraq. Egypt is also sending air and naval forces to assist in the campaign and Turkey has said it might contribute logistical support, with the US already providing intelligence and logistical support and the UK, Pakistan and several other countries offering political support and diplomatic support.
