Obama (Illustrative)US President Barak Obama made his pitch to Congress Wednesday for new legislation that would authorize him to upgrade military activity against the Islamic State (IS) terror militia, declaring that IS is “going to lose” but stopping short of calling for US ground forces to directly engage them. “I’m convinced that the United States should not get dragged back into another prolonged ground war,” he said, speaking in contravention to what many respected analysts have said is the only serious long-term solution to the problems posed by IS. Many lawmakers in both parties expressed dismay with the President’s proposal, with objections ranging from the costs it would incur during a time when the Pentagon’s budget is already under severe pressure to the political and military impracticality of the plan.
